When most of us think about our dream wedding venues, we imagine country hotels, picturesque churches, and boutique properties that we can hire out for just one day. If you’re anything like me, getting married in your own home is probably something that’s never crossed your mind.
Not too long ago though, I was chatting with a fellow bride-to-be about her plans to go down this route, and it soon became clear that there are many reasons why it could be the perfect choice for you and your partner.
As is always the case with wedding planning though, there are some careful considerations to be made. Here’s what you really need to know about hosting your wedding at home…
The savings that you make could fund your dream home improvements
There are so many home improvements that I’d love to make, but I know that an upcoming wedding means that we don’t have the budget. Here’s a novel idea though… Instead of spending a fortune on your big day, why not get married at home and use the cash you’ve saved to make the upgrades that you’ve been dreaming of?
For example, I’ve been thinking about conservatories for quite some time now. If we were to tie the knot at home, we could fund such a project, and also create extra space on the wedding day itself. It’s a big decision to make and lots of factors need to be considered, but I’m definitely giving it some further thought.
It’ll possibly require more hard work
Okay, so I don’t want to put a dampener on things, but it’s important to recognise this. Without the guidance of a wedding coordinator who plans these events every single day of the year, there will be a lot of things to work out on your own.
Still though, the beauty of going against tradition is that you don’t have to do anything that you don’t want to. Want to keep things simple? Great! There are no rules to follow, and your guests will have an amazing day regardless of the small details that you decide on. Ultimately, they’re there to help you to celebrate a new life together.
You’ll thank yourself for hiring a professional cleaning company
Imagine waking up the day after the wedding and having to start tackling all the mess. Glasses to wash, confetti to sweep up, and a load of bottles and cans that need to be taken to your local recycling centre. This is probably not quite the romantic start to married life that you had in mind.
Part of the appeal of getting married at home is cutting costs, but paying a professional cleaning company to get things back in order is often a very wise investment. They’ll have the job done in a fraction of the time, and it’s just one less thing for you to worry about.
Having a wedding at home isn’t for everyone, but for certain couples, it could be the ideal solution. Would you consider going down this route?
