A question that I’m asked all the time from my readers is how I first met my fiancé. I’ll admit that I’m a total sucker for a good romantic story too. I love hearing about the first time that people clapped eyes on the one that they’d go on to spend the rest of their lives with, and all the little details that they remember so fondly.
Call me sentimental, but surely it’s the most beautiful thing in the world. Today, I’m going to tell you the story of how I met my fiancé…
I decided that it was my time to meet the love of my life
All too often, we’re told that the right person will come along when we least expect it. It’s a nice idea, but this simply wasn’t happening for me. I’d been single for quite a few years, and I knew that meeting someone special was exactly what I wanted and needed. I wasn’t going to leave it to chance anymore, and so I signed up for a Fife dating site.
Yes, I met my fiancé online! Though online dating is becoming more and more socially acceptable these days, there is sometimes a little bit of a stigma around it. Here’s the thing though… If you’re busy, and you have a job and other commitments to take care of, you sometimes just don’t meet new people in the day to day course of your life. There’s no shame in deciding to go after what you really want.
I kissed a few frogs before I found my prince
I’d love to tell you that I’d been using dating sites in Fife for all of five minutes when I found the man of my dreams. That’s not true though. I threw myself into dating with plenty of vigour, and most of my nights out involved having a perfectly nice time. There was decent conversation, good food, nice wine, but sometimes, you just know that there’s no spark there, and it’s not going to lead to anything meaningful.
But I stuck with it, and that was definitely one of the best decisions that I’ve ever made. One day I received a message from my now fiancé, we arranged our first date, and the rest, as they say, is history!
We dated for six months before getting engaged
It may be a cliche, but when you know, you just know. We had our first date in a local Italian restaurant, and we were pretty much inseparable from that point onwards. We started to plan our first home together, and within six months of that first date, he popped the question.
Needless to say, I said yes. I didn’t know what to expect when I decided to try online dating, and I definitely had a couple of reservations.
Ultimately though, I’ve got a lot to thank free dating sites for. They’re how I met my fiancé, and I guess that in a roundabout way, they lead me to start the blog right here at King of Hearts.
If you’re planning your wedding right now, I’d love to hear about how you met your fiancé!
